GPU fix for Coby Kyros MID7015

It recently came across this GPU fix for the Kyros that allows games to display correctly.  I installed it yesterday and it works great.  It is a simple zip file that is installed using recovery mode.  I use ClockWorkMod and I am unsure if it will work using the stock recovery on the Kyros.  After the install my Kyros did crash once when I was trying to switch between apps when holding down the home button.

This contains a fixed GPU driver and a tweaked build.prop with LCD density set to 200 as in Watery Kyros, and dalvikvm is 24m.  It is meant to be applied in recovery mode, and fixes graphical texture problems in the Coby MID7015 shipping firmware in games such as Angry Birds.

One tip: if you start seeing force closes on boot after this, increase dalvik.vm.heap in build.prop to 32 or 48. This value is the memory allotted to each instance of the java virtual machine. Hopefully this won’t cause any issues with the graphics driver.

I have not increased the memory yet and the patch functions very well.  However there are some slow downs and I am sure they will go away when I change the memory allocation.  The display also seems to be a little more crisp and the icons are slightly smaller.  But Angry Birds does now function correctly.  Go ahead and install the patch it worked great for me and made me like the Kyros even more.

You can download the patch at the HERE.

This fix is for Android 2.1. I don’t know if there is a fix for 2.3.1 or 2.3.3. I recall having the same kind of problems with Gingerbread that I had with Froyo.
